would an essay about me stealing candy when I didnt know what money was when i was 5 and getting caught and beaten and learning about patience and doing the right thing be a good idea for an essay, i think it would but i dunno.

it sounds risky and also a bit cliche. if you think you can execute it well, then go for it

don't mean to hijack your thread, moviemanina, but I've got a similar question.

Would a story about how I stole two kittens (hilarity guaranteed!) from an abusive home and what the experience taught me be a safe (haha) topic?

i dont think an essay about what you learned when you were 5 years old really reveals anything about you as a person.

almost everyone learns these lessons when they are young, so in my opinion it is not very unique at all

If you can express it well in words and show how it has impacted your entire life up until now, then I think you could pull it off.

haha awesome, yea now that i think of it, its not good at all.

Sounds as if you're trying to stuff SO much into your essay (just me)

stealing candy when you didnt know what money was
getting caught
and beaten
and learning about patience
and doing the right thing

Beaten? That might not be so good if you don't pull it off well.

Stealing? same thing as above

Otherwise, feel free! It's your essay :D

It might be a little hard to believe that you can't write about anything more recent than when you were five. It might be hard to believe that a five-year-old actually learned the lessons that now, looking back from age 17, you think you learned then.
