So...be creative with your own prompt right?

Does that mean you can't use a prompt from last year? And in all honesty, is this the easiest one to do? I wish I could answer the other prompts...but to make it good I'd have to make stuff up. That doesn't really matter does it? =P

There was another thread a couple weeks ago that dealt with using an old prompt. The general consensus is don’t.

For your other questions, it’s easy to come up with your own prompt…if it’s as good as theirs. If you’re making your own, it shouldn’t be something stupid like, “Tell us about a time that you collaborated with someone to achieve a goal.” I wrote that essay for another college last year, and it was soooooooooooooooooooooo boring. Don’t do that to the university, and moreover, don’t do that to yourself.

If you have some really creative prompt, then by all means write on it. But it has to be something creative and unique.

I find it hard to believe that you just can’t think of anything for their prompts. Just give it some time, and something will come to you. You shouldn’t rush into this essay. This is the exact reason that UChicago doesn’t look at the SAT Writing section. You need time to develop your essay.

following on the OP’s question, can the prompt be like a paragraph long? Just so I could give context to the question I’m asking myself.

Thanks for you input JB.

By the way, is it plausible to write a poem? or a rap…?

Or…do they like to stick with essays. It would make me definitely stand out I think…hahaha, but not sure in exactly a good way =P

I think a poem/rap is plausible, but I would make sure that it works for you. In other words, don’t just go, “Wowee! I’m going to send in a poem because I can and because it will make me different!” but if poems are your thing, or silly raps are your thing, I think you might consider it.

I got accepted to UofC this past year. I will be attending UofC in the fall. I also answered prompt 5 for my UofC essay.

Do it. Be creative. There is absolutely no limitation to this essay so long as you’re expressing thoughts/emotions/feelings towards something.
