Essay prompt #1 and CommonApp Activity Essay

Quick question:
I chose to answer Prompt #1 (What experience in high school has mattered most to you? How do you see this experience influencing your decision-making in college?)

This is almost the same as the CommonApp's Activity Short Answer Prompt.
I am Editor-in-Chief of an award-winning newspaper and journalism takes up much of my life so of course, I am writing about journalism for both prompts.

I have different angles for both, but do you think it would be too repetitive? I have also been president of a club for 3 years; should I write about that instead for my commonapp short answer?

Thanks so much!

I would change your common app short answer to create some variety. But why not the “just for fun” essay? That’s a really easy one to write about.

Yeah, I was originally going to do the “fun” essay, but I decided to emphasize my job as EIC because it is a huge part of who I am and it’s been really meaningful for me. Plus, I do have a lot of fun in journalism :] Thanks for your advice!!

My son is in his first year at Pomona, and he wrote on the “fun” prompt. I think this is important because Pomona seems to want students who are not manic students, but amazingly smart students who don’t obsess about being smart and who do LOTS of other things to round out their lives. Hope that helps!
