So for the Arts and Science Supplement my common app was already about bio and what an experiment taught me. So Im deciding between doing an essay on an scientific article I read and was just blown away or a book I read for a book review that altered my views. The reason i want to go for the article is that I really want to get into the Science Honors Program there.

If the book is well known, or there is a good chance someone else is going to write about it, I’d go with the scientific article. The risk of writing about a book is sounding like applicant number #17,962 who also read the same book, was moved, and whose views were altered. Choose what is unique to you, that no one else could write.

Another option is to write both then ask a trusted teacher which sounds more like you personally. Often the topic you are most passionate about will become very evident in your writing style.
