I'm applying to Columbia regular decision, but I had a question about Columbia's supplementary essay policy. I already applied somewhere early, so I can't change my Common App essay, which I felt wasn't that great and a bit... deficient. Am I allowed to use the supplementary materials section (which has an option for 'other') for a second full-length essay (I think this one is much better than my other one), and if I can, would this be recommended.

You can change your essay - you have to make a “new” Common App version for Columbia (https://www.commonapp.org/CommonApp/Docs/AlternateVersionTechnologyFAQ.pdf)

If you don’t want to do this, I would strongly suggest that you not include a supplementary essay. Supplements to Columbia are supposed to be arts/research related, afaik, not extra examples of your writing.

What neiro6 (congrats by the way) said. Definitely don’t abuse the supplementary info option. Just make a new Common App if you’re unhappy with your current personal statement.
