essay question

What do you believe to be your generation’s greatest challenge?

This is going to be liberal as hell, and seeing as Wake is conservative (I’m moderate…more liberal than conservative though), how should I approach this essay?

Should I be myself, or keep it reasonably balanced?

I think you should be yourself, as long as you wouldn't be insulting or offensive. Other than that write what you want. Would you really want to go to a school that doesn't want you for who you are?

There are quite a few liberals at Wake though. My First Year Seminar was pretty darn liberal.

I agree with Scarlet here. First, you don't want to go to a school where you've got to hide who you are, and second, I'm not sure how conservative Wake's administration is. I know that we've got a reputation of being a conservative school, but I think that's mainly because of the student body, not the faculty and administration. And finally, I don't think it would matter if you wrote an essay that completely goes against everything that the admissions counselor believes. As long as it's well written (and, you know, doesn't mention that you want to kill your roommate or something like that), you'll get as much consideration as anyone else.

FYS: Challenges to the Global Community.
We had 14 of the most liberal kids at Wake. But we also had this one kid who said that healthcare should be abandoned and survival of the fittest is the way to go.

Be yourself.
