Essay Question

Hi all,

The typical advice one recieves in high school regarding college essays is to write about a specific moment and how it effected you; However, the UW statements seem to require applicants about all of their experiences more broadly, rather than just one specific moment. I am just wondering how you attacked/would attack their statements.

Thanks,

“Be specific, use recent examples, and focus on what is unique about you.”

The Wisconsin app is more like statements than the kind of creative essays Ivies and LACs seem to be looking for. My son mentioned a number of things important to him in a sentence or three, but focused on the one that was most important to him for the bulk of the statement. But I think your focus on “moments” is off. Not much important ever happens in a moment(unless you jumped out of the way of a bus at the last second), most important things happen over a period of time. JMO.
