essay questions suck!

same with my reason... that's a little scary, though, if it turns out that they don't read it.

If it's a 1500+ word essay you're submitting as one of the regular essays, it probably won't get read. That's just how it works. They won't see that it's really important because they'll look at it off the bat and see that it's a really, really long essay that is well over the word limit. Try getting the most important stuff in and eliminating extraneous stuff. There are always ways to be more concise ;)

yeah... i'm definitely gonna have to fix that. :p

Okay, let's take a poll: if you're writing an essay about a quote and you put the quote in bold font at the top of the essay, should the quote be included in the word count?

lol, how long is your quote?
I would say, yes it should be included because they have to read it! Simple

lol i haven't really written anything yet, but i was just checking out some of my favorite quotes and i found a good one... that's 75 words! eeek! that's 3/10 of my essay! i guess that's not even really a quote, though... that's more like a mini-excerpt. :p

ive actually heard many essay books recommend not using quotes because they usually just look right out of a quotation book. (just something to keep in mind ;))

yeah well usually i wouldn't... but this is the essay about your favorite quote. LOL! thanks for the advice, though! That's good to keep in mind.

Haha in that case, I think you need the quote. Is this a 250 word essay? I think you're allowed to stretch that limit a little...
mine were all like 380 words. :)

Mine were also about 100 words over. I don't think the adcoms spend their time counting words. As long as the essay isn't inordinately lengthy, they'll read it without annoyance.

Yeah, mine was DEFINATELY at least 50 words over the limit, but I couldn't figure out what to cut out. "What can you cut out without feeling as though you cut out a part of yourself?" that's what my English teacher told me. That's always a good question to ask yourself before you start cutting out words.

My main essay definitely started out at 1000 words, and I eventually left it at 680, but I'm kind of glad they have a limit (even if I didn't quite adhere to them) because when I was cutting it down, I think I improved it quite a bit.

my short essays were 380-400 words and the long one was about 650. (No I can't stick to the word limit)

And we are proof that it doesn't matter! :)

this is just a really stupid question but what do they mean by recording? do they mean song? video clip? what? vinyl record?

i think its either a song or an album..but not video clip or vinyl (not that many people even have vinyls)

okay thanks and i was only kidding about the vinyl (last time i saw one was when i was 5)

I put song; many put records. Those questions don't really matter, though they're lots of fun. They just want an idea of who you are, besides all those academic things.

ya i kinda figured that but i didn't want to make a complete fool of myself
