Does anyone know if schools that create a composite score also create a composite of the essay. I've taken the SAT's twice, the first time I got a 740 on the writing with an 11 on the essay and the second time I got a 770 on the writing with a 9 on the essay, so I was wondering if they'd look at the 770 and 11 or how they would do things. If it helps, my main schools that I'm applying to are UChicago, UPenn, Georgetown, Brown, Columbia, NYU, Tufts, JHU, and Northwestern. Thanks

I doubt they would do that when actually calculating your score, because the score you get out of 800 already includes the essay. If you took the "770" writing and switched out the 9 with an 11, you'd probably have more of a 790 or even an 800.

770's fine, though. Within 50 of 800 and all. I think, though they wouldn't alter your scores, colleges would see the difference in essay scores and just assume the best.
