I just got my September scores back, and I'm disappointed with my essay score. It was an 8. Now, I predicted that this would be the case, since I switched topics mid-stream and had to start my essay over completely, but it's still a disappointment since my other essay score on the ACT in March was an 11. My overall composite went up, however, to a 33 (from a 32), and my math score went from a 29 to a 30, though my English score went from a 36 to a 34.

I'm applying to some very selective colleges (Swarthmore, Amherst, and Wellesley, to name a few) that request the ACT with writing. Assuming that my SAT scores don't go up in October or December and I'm forced to send the ACT, should I send my 32 because the essay score is higher, or should I send a low essay score with a 33? To the best of my knowledge, none of these colleges superscore.

I'd appreciate any advice I can get.
