Essay Scores Thread

My essay score was already released! I got a 9, definitely improved from my 7 last year. Combined English-Writing was 32.. I'm totally happy with the improvement and the speed of the essay score release!

i was just going to start one if these lol.
I got a 10 on this and a 9 on the SAT’s but i had a few questions like what’s considered a ‘good’ grade on these essays and are the essay comments on the ACT always so general? mine was: “Your essay showed recognition of the complexity of the issue by partially evaluating its implications. General statements in your essay were well supported with specific reasons, examples, and details. Your essay was well organized, making it easy to understand logical relationships among ideas.” that’s nice and all but I was kind of look for criticism haha

Funny you got one less on the SAT, me too. 9 ACT and 8 SAT. But yeah I was hoping for something about what I did WRONG to only get a 9, but all they gave me was what I did right:
Your essay adequately supported general statements with specific reasons, examples, and details. Your essay maintained focus on the specific issue in the prompt.

My 7 was even worse:
Your essay responded to the prompt by taking a clear position on the issue.

Yeah. I’m guessing since they said that I only ‘partially’ evaluated the ‘complexity of the issue’ I got a lower score.
I didn’t even know that there was anything “complex” about doing homework in front of the tv.

How long on average does it take to receive your essay score?

wow i just write 10s i guess… two 10s on the SAT and now a 10 on the ACT

i tend to do better on the SAT essay in comparison to the ACT one
=</p>

Meh. 9 on this one which brought English down to a 27…
I had a 31 w/ 11 on the Apr. one. I guess this wasn’t my ACT for Eng. and Sci.

I heard the SAT essay needs specific examples but the act doesn’t … was this true? i hope i didnt **** myself out of a good score from hearing this some were

12 on both ACT and SAT. I find that sophisticated vocabulary/syntax carries more weight in the SAT than the ACT. For ACT, make sure you respond to the opponents’ argument, and if you can, make your rebuttals a central part of your essay instead of just mentioning them.

I’m so excited! I got an 11! I love the ACT! I got a 6 on the SAT essay and an 8 my second try, I’m definitely an ACT person :)
