Essay Topic A (Super quick)

I feel sort of silly asking this, but, alas...

Essay topic A reads: "Write an essay in which you tell us about someone who has made an impact on your life and explain how and why this person is important to you."

Does this have to be a REAL individual, or can it be a fictional character?

I wrote what I feel is a really strong common app essay for prompt #4, which asks about a fictional/historical character and their impact on you. I would love to be able to reuse this for UT, but the topic is so vague that I'm not entirely sure whether that's a definite "no" to a fictional person, or whether it could fly. Anyone know for certain?

I think it would be fine.

The thing you want to remember with this essay as well as all that you will write is you want to stand out. Make the question fit to what you want to write, so they don’t see as many responses of how someone was influenced by their grandmother or brother. By having a fictional character they might be more interested in you because it’s different.

I think thats a great idea, its very unique. Although I have heard of the idea before (someone I know wrote about Harry Potter), they definitely see more family members and friends.

These are similar to what I was thinking (in addition to liking how it cuts down on the mountain of essays!), so thanks for the input! I couldn’t for the life of me come up with a real person who would be moderately interesting to read or write about that had really influenced me. It sounds like like this will work well in multiple ways. =)
