Essay topic choice - Prompts from other colleges okay?

I'm thinking about writing my main Harvard essay using UPenn's "you have just competed your 300 pg bio, submit pg 217) prompt. I think I'm gonna modify it, probably make it to be page 30 or so of a 300 page biography.

Would this be okay since I'm not really using the UPenn essay, or will the adcoms look down on this?

BTW, I'm applying EA.

badabump....?

don't word it exactly the same...it should be ok, since you technically can make up your own topic

Well, yeah, I'm not gonna word it the same. It'll be a different thing (page 30 as opposed to pg 217). But should I mention where I got the idea from or should I just let it hang there?

Any more thoughts? I really need some advice here!!!!

I bet those Harvard adcoms know by heart the essay prompts to colleges they are competing with (e.g. UPenn). You really should come up with a completely new prompt or you just sound like you prepared an essay especially for UPenn and Harvard is an afterthought.

But I'm not using the same prompt. I'm gonna modify it so that I wouldn't be able to use on the UPenn prompt. Also, I'm applying SCEA at H...anymore opinions/advice???

damn it, this sucks only 2 weeks until deadline and I don't have my essay!!

i'm confused... care to show the prompt you're thinking of?

"you have just competed your 300 pg bio, submit pg 30"

as opposed to UPenn's

"you have just competed your 300 pg bio, submit pg 217

I don't see the difference, really (the wording is identical but for 1 number). Adcoms are going to be able to tell that it's straight from UPenn's essay, so my comment stands.

On the harvard website (and supplementary form), it says applicants should try to send common appl n suppl forms by 15th October (today). What happens if you dont do that... any kind of discrimination?

I don't think so.

Cortigiana-

That's not my question. I know that they're gonna tell that it's from the UPenn essay prompt! My question is whether they'll look down on that, given the fact that I just like the idea of the prompt.
