Essay Topic - family's significant influence

I've heard multiple times on CC that no single essay topic is cliche - it is HOW you write that determines whether an essay comes across as boring and cliched.

I just wrote an essay about the significant influences that my brother had on me - and how his actions encouraged me to follow my passion. Is the topic about family members being role models overused in college essays?

I am afraid that, if it is, it will be harder for me to differentiate myself from hundreds others - and I'm not sure if my essay can do that.

I’d have to actually read the essay to know if it works or not…

An essay about a brother is less of a cliche than one about your grandparents, at least.
