Essay Topic Help!!

So I was deciding what to write for my NMS essay and my common app essay and decided to do just one essay for both. The problem is I'm not sure what to write about. I have two ideas I want to write about, but I don't know which one is better, so I wanted your guys opinion. Both are under the topic of experience that changed my life

Essay #1: I want to write about my trip to India when I was a 12 year old. I actually made friends with my grandparent's cook's son and he actually took me into the slums. I would write about meeting the boy and seeing the slums and saying how that inspired me to become a biomedical engineer because the boy ended up dying of malnutrition and also allowed me to see how the other side of the world lives.

Essay #2: The only reason I even thought about doing something else was because my dad told me that admissions officers get third world country ones all the time and mine would have to be really good to stick in their heads and I'm an average writer, so I thought of another topic. This one, I was going to write about how growing up as a kid, I loved playing soccer and tennis and that one day when I had both practices during the same days, I had an asthma attack and had to be rushed to the hospital. I ended up quitting soccer so my asthma wouldn't get out of control. This experience made me realize I wanted to enter the medical field, specifically the biomedical field as the only reason I stopped soccer was because, I couldn't bring my nebulizer to the practice fields, while tennis practice was in my neighborhood.

I think essay topic 2 is a very first world problem and supposedly admissions officers like that sometimes. However I think essay topic 1 is much more emotional and more life altering even though both can be made to sound really influential in my life. Let me know what you think :)

1 sounds like you could really make it into a more meaningful essay! i’d definitely go with that one…it’s certainly a unique experience, and admissions probably sees a lot of essays about soccer or sports and facing an obstacle with them :D

In all the research I did and work with pros in helping my daughter get her essay written last year, the most important thing that was stressed over and over was to write about a topic that showcases what you like best in yourself. So you can write either one, but make sure that how you write it points out your own qualities - sesitivity, passion, openmindedness, perseverence, etc. The admissions officers don’t want to hear about what you did, but how it affected you, your feelings and your thinking. It doesn’t even have to be monumental - I know a girl who was admitted to a very prestigious school who wrote about reading uner her covers with a flashlight - but throughout the whole essay, her personal qualities were very evident!

i think most of the students struggling to choose right essay topic in their academic life…so everyone should take it as a challenge…there have a lot of topics to write on…if you need to take any history essay then you can choose the topic [Essay on African American History](http://essaycompanyreviews.com/essay-on-african-american-history.html)…
