Essay topic question?

This past summer, I was hospitalized for a few days, for mental reasons. I'm completely okay now, and my hospitalization taught me a lot and I've really grown as a person from it (and boy, I was so immature before!). I kind of want to write my essay about it, but I'm afraid that colleges will see that I've had mental issues (partially caused by stress) and see that as a negative. Would it be inappropriate to write about it?

Anyone want to help?

I think it is a very risky topic. It can probably be done, but the chances for it to be a terrific essay that doesn’t scare the adcoms are-- I believe-- slim.

Don’t do it!!!

I think you should write about what you want to write about. If you focus on what you’ve learned from the experience, I think it would be fine.

I doubt very much you can scare an ad-com. There are plenty of kids in colleges who require mental health services. I think it actually might be a benefit if you have already dealt with these issues and have developed coping mechanisms for them.
