essay topic

My essay topic is "Describe any personal or academic circumstances (positive or negative) that you feel we should know about you."

I'm considering writing the essay about my lack of extracurricular activities, and how I wish I had been more involved in high school. ECs are definitely my weak point, so I thought talking about how I regret not joining any clubs or anything and how I want to change that in college might be a good idea.

Do you think this would be ok, or should I try to think of something else? I'd really appreciate any advice.

It'll seem pretty weak if you write about your weaknesses and how you'll improve on them in college. They won't accept you on speculation, they'll accept you based on what you've done.

Write about your strengths or positive things, and show them something unique and interesting about you.

You'd definitely have to put a positive spin on it. It shouldn't sound like you're making excuses for your high school inactivity. And also, I think you should include some examples of how you've recently recognized your lack of involvement and have started doing ECs - or else the colleges may wonder if you're truly earnest about committing yourself in college.

thanks for the replies! And yeah, this idea probably won't work too well, I think I'll try to come up with something else.

Does that apply to an essay about a shortcoming also? It said to tell how it hurt and/or helped me. And i did both, but should I emphasis the fact that i'm trying to improve more>
