Can I change essay's when applying to different colleges through common app and how do I do this?
Also can I change the prompt of the essay/ so completely different essay for different colleges. How?

Once you submit your first essay through common app, it “locks.” It remains the same for all other schools unless you “unlock” it. You get to unlock it TWO times only . . . after that, you can’t change it again. So . . .

(1) Submit Essay #1 to your first three schools (or however many you want).
(2) Unlock it and change it to Essay #2; submit to three more schools (or however many you want).
(3) Unlock it and change it to Essay #3. Submit to ALL remaining schools. No more changes allowed.

I don’t know if you can change the prompt. Good question!

What is the exact procedure to “unlock”?
I am sure I will want to revamp my essay after a month :)

Do a search of this forum for the word “unlock” - I’m sure you’ll find a description of the process. You can also try checking the “help” menu on the common app.

What is the exact procedure to “unlock”?

After you submit the app the first time, an “unlock” button will appear below the essay text box.

Yes, you can change prompts when you unlock your essay for subsequent applications.

Hi, this is my first post ever on this site. Please help - first round of applications are due tomorrow!
My question is: I understand that once you send your application to one or more colleges, you cannot revise it. However, on subsequent submissions to additional colleges who have a later deadline, can my daughter change her choice of essay topic (not just a revision of her previous topic)?
