Hey guys, I was wondering what the essay topics were for MIT last year because I couldn't find it on their website. Are they roughly the same from year to year? i know it's early, but i'm alittle anxious to get started, as I'll be gone for most of the summer...

Essay.
Provide your response to either Essay A or B on separate sheets, attached to this page.
Make sure your name is on each sheet of paper you include.
Please keep to a 500-word limit.

Choose essay A or B

Essay A: Life brings many disappointments as well as satisfactions. Tell us about a time in your life when you experienced disappointment, or faced difficult or trying circumstances. How did you react?

Essay B: An application to MIT is much more than a set of test scores, grades and activities. It's often a reflection of an applicant's dreams and aspirations, dreams shaped by the worlds we inhabit. We'd like to know a bit more about your world. Describe the world you come from, for example your family, clubs, school, community, city, or town. How has that world shaped your dreams and aspirations?

In reading your application we want to get to know you as well as we can. In the space provided (100 words or fewer), use the following questions to give us a sense of who you are and where your interests lie.

a. We know you live a busy life, full of activities, many of which are required of you. Tell us about something you do for the pleasure of it.

b. Although you may not yet know what you want to major in, which department or program at MIT appeals to you and why?

COMPLETELY OPTIONAL

On a separate sheet, show us and/or tell us about something that you have created. This can be, for example a design, a device, an object, an idea or concept, a piece of music or art. (500 words or less)

No admission application can meet the needs of every individual. If you think that additional information or material will give us a more thorough impression of you, please respond on separate sheets.

And to close the loop, these prompts were the same two autumns ago for the Class of '09 when they applied. No guarantee that they won't change for the Class of '11, but it's safe to proceed as if they'll at least be substantially similar.

The short answer questions will be the same. The main essay options will change this year. I'll let you know when the new ones are confirmed.

Oo, new essay prompts. Exciting. =)

One of the questions should be "Timur?" and the appropriate answer should be yes.

Yes, Meatlovers, posts #3 and 4 contained the short and optional questions. The prompts in post #2 are the ones Ben Jones is saying will change this year.
