I'm having a hard time choosing what to write about for my essay. I've come up with a few good ideas, but I'm not entirely sure if they're good enough. Any advice? These are my ideas:

My first time competing in the Meats Evaluation Career Development Event. (Basically, it's where you look at animal carcasses and determine which one is best). Meant to show how I tried something new and learned a lot from it, etc.

Our band's tradition of touching the windows as we drive over the railroad tracks when we go to a competition, and how it has evolved from a good luck charm to a symbol of camaraderie and teamwork.

Celebrating Towel Day with my friend (and fellow hitchhiker!) and how the themes of this day apply to our everyday lives.

Should I use one of these, or scrap all of them for something entirely different? If it's any help, I'm applying to Carleton College.

I think all of them sound interesting, but in truth, it will not matter which topic you pick, but rather what you say about yourself through the essay. So if you want to write about how you believe in big foot that could suck, or if you tell why this is and how it has inspired your intellectual curiosity and your desire to make new discoveries and understand the smaller details in the world…or whatever, it could be awesome because it says something about YOU.

Personally, I am very girlish and I enjoy heartwarming stories, so for me, the second choice sounds like a great idea. Just make sure it doesnt just say that your team is really good at working together, but that it elaborates to say that YOU are really good at working as part of that team. I think that would make for a very respectable essay if you work hard on it.

Hmm, good point calswag, although it wouldn’t be graphic. Plus, there’s other things than just that in the contest. However, I’m leaning towards the second one now and hoping the rest of my application conveys that I’m “Carleton Material”. Thanks guys!
