Essay Topics

What are some good essay topics to stay away from? One of the applications I’m working on right now has these three topics:

 1. Provide a favorite quote from a movie, song, speech or work of literature and explain how the quote is personally meaningful to you.
 2. What risks have you taken in life? What were the circumstances and results? How have you benefited from risk-taking?
 3. Describe what you believe your life may be like in five years.

I can’t do the second, because I haven’t taken any risks, and I worry that the quote I would use is too overdone, and the third seems a little cliche.

I don’t know what I should do, and I keep stressing about the numerous essays I have to write.

Any help on topics that are best and topics that are worst, both in general, and for this app?

Whatever you feel will convey you best. For example, you said you're not a risk taker, so don't do the risks one. All that matters is you show why you're interesting and unique...which prompt does that for you?

Number three looks good. Going from your name, do you want to be a star? Describe your life as a struggling actor living in LA or NYC. Make sure to throw in how XXXX college prepared you.

Yeah, that's the one I figured I might do. So in general, what are bad topics and what are good topics? Like the type that are on the common app, for example, since a lot of people use that.
