"Please relate your interest in studying at Georgetown University to your goals. How do these thoughts relate to your chosen course of study?"

I am a bit confused concerning this essay. Should I explain why I want to go to Georgetown or why I chose what I want to study (English). Or is it a combination of the two, like why I want to major in English at Georgetown?

I was going to tell them what my goal was, and how Georgetown is going to help me achieve those goals. I think the 2nd essay will almost come off as a sequel to my first essay. Is that bad?

young_one pretty much has it. Just tell them why you think certain things about Georgetown make it the best place for you to study your major and to prepare you for your future. For example, I related my course of study (Philosophy) to the fact that I'd be coming from across the country and the new environment would expose me to a lot of new ideas. I'd recommend learning as much as possible about opportunities for English majors here and including the ones that interest you in your essay.

"Goals" can be anything you want in the future. Of course they can be related to your career, but you could also include goals like wanting to become bilingual and live in another country.

I'm a ling major, and I pretty much just did what BrandyQ did. I talked about what Georgetown could offer me, put in a few choice examples of special programs that are here, and only briefly mentioned career goals. Just use this opportunity to show why Georgetown is the best place for you.
