So, as many of you have been, I am grappling with my essays and final tweaks for Yale EA. However, in the supplement, the one essay does not have the necessary/mandatory symbol beside it or bolding:
"What in particular about Yale has influenced your decision to apply? Please limit your response to the space provided."
So is this essay not required? And would it be considered for acceptance, or just something for them to crunch their data and shift their university around?
If it's considered but not mandatory, would it be as a just if its good/insightful sort of thing verses no difference, or it probably has a lot of weight regardless, and should be done by everyone?
The lack of a Required appearance is throwing me off, and I have enough to worry about with my other essays heheh :D.

it’s 500 characters, which basically means a few sentences, not an entire essay. i was under the impression that it was required, but even if it isn’t, it’ll look pretty bad if you can’t spend 10 measly min writing a few sentences explaining why you’re applying to yale in the first place.

Oh goodness, I thought it was 500 words (like the other 2 essays) and wasn’t looking forward to it…
True, I just would want it to be unique if I did it, which would require more than 10 minutes heheh.

Even if it isn’t mandatory, I would jump at any chance to show the adcoms my passion for the school. And considering that essays are one of the few places where you can actually show who YOU are with YOUR voice, I’d highly recommend it.

Yeah, the addmissions officer at the info session I attended said plenty of kids leave it blank, and that shoots every one of them in the foot. They don’t want kids who can’t take the time to fill it out.

Fair enough, I apologize for sounding lazy :p. I was kind of more just wondering if it’s considered for acceptance (which it looks like it is), which changes the degree of attention it will receive for me heheh

You should clearly take the time to do it!
