Essay Word Limit

Sorry, I know I've been starting way too many threads, but I promise I read and consider all of the responses.
Anyway . . .

How closely is one expected to keep to the word limit? My essays are all longer than their limits, but I made sure that it was by less that or equal to fifty words. How much to people break that rule, and by how much? It would be so much easier, just to have, say, fifty or a hundred more words.

I'm doing my essays for Andover and I'm not sure how long to make them either. Would anyone here know? You know, the ones that say "What do you like most about yourself, etc."

Fifty more or fewer words in an essay will make no difference.

kitty - Just look at the second paragraph in your post -- it contains 61 words -- and it takes up little space!

That's true. 61 words sounds like quite a bit, but takes sometimes less than 30 seconds to read. I was unhappy with my essay for Groton before, and now I changed it, and it's perhaps 65 words over the limit. However, it's half a page, so I don't really feel bad about it's length. I feel like, if the newer essay explain what I want to say and is more interesting writing, then it's all right to make it a little over the limit.
