I'm sorry if this topic has already been discussed, but I'm new and I'm mad! The word limits are so annoying! Is it okay to go off limits? I wrote a 600-word essay for the main essay (500-word limit).

absolutely OK! approved by one of the admissions officers in his blog

Yeah, I'm sure that'd be fine. (Ah even though I scraped mine down to 500 words before reading the blog for EA).

mine was 600 words :)

i was soo annoyed by the limit. I cut mine down to like 520 and just gave up. i wish i knew that the limit didnt really matter then, haha

what about the short essays? do they not care if those are not under 100 words?

I spent a long time getting mine to 510 words. After I sent in my app I realised I didn't need to when I read that blog. So much for obeying instructions. :(

can someone give me the link to that blog? thanks

I'm wondering if 200 words is OK for short answers.

Just for a different perspective ... my short answers were 100 words or shorter and my essay was a word or two under 500. :)

is it bad if my long essay is only about 250-300 words? i really think that I have addressed the topic completely and if I write any more, it won't really add anything

I got in with 740. As long as its interesting and informative, I think, they will keep reading. My short answers were also too long (I managed conveniently to manipulate the page layout to let me sqeeze more in). Stop worrying about that stuff, for no admissions officer is going to waste time counting the number of words. Good luck guys!

just keep 'em interested, that should be your main focus

i made sure that my essay was exactly 500 words -- lol! But then I completely ignored the word limit on the short answers... :)
