Rough draft broke 1500 and was on its way to 2000 when I got a hold of myself and cut it down to 816. I can maybe still make it even more concise and still communicate all my messages. But the actual limit is 500, and 550 is no problem. But what about 816?

i’d say its still too long. maybe not outrageously wrong but continue working it down word by word. see if there are sentences that you don’t need, or if you can combine sentences too. Use simpler prose, be direct with your words like you should be in all essays. Don’t dilly-dally around and use complicated sentences to sound smarter.

oops I did it again. make that 818 hehehe

dude, 1500 down to 800. That’s a whole lot of sentence arrangements and crap. Should I maybe just erase some ideas just to make a more concise essay?

Will someone tell me the range I’m looking for? In other words, the real word limit?

for all of my essays where there was no predetermined limit, I made sure that they were within 450-500 words. That’s enough to have 4 well developed paragraphs, while still keeping it short. I think that with the admissions people reading so much essays, its better to get more to the point and keep it short and sweet. Honestly, I think that they would value brevity more than an overload of information.

I’ve read admission essays and I am aware that some essays are boring in that they talk about stuff that they should’ve left out. but the prompt is to describe the background I come from and how it has shaped me. It’s kinda hard to describe that using only one message. So I have been trying to be the most concise I can to give them the whole picture.
