I started writing my NMSF essay about my experience going on a missions trip to Romania. I've heard that these topics are very overdone, plus they aren't the best to write about because not everyone has the opportunity to go on these kind of trips. I was just wondering it it would be a good enough topic to make me a NMF, provided that it's well written.

I have a 3.85 gpa with no C's, a 2150 SAT, and a good letter of recommendation. So I don't think that anything about my academics will hinder me from being a NMF.

Cbatarseh…As long as it fits the prompt, that should be a perfectly fine topic for the NMSF essay. The essay is mostly just so NMSC can get a feel for “who you are”, so it’s not as closely scrutinized as some admissions essays might be. As long as you put a decent effort into it and aren’t disrespectful towards NMSC or the NM process in any way you should be fine. Some students will recycle (edited for length usually) some of their admissions or scholarship essay prompts and that’s accceptable as well.

Okay, thank you! One reason I want to do this topic is because I’ve actually written an essay about my missions trip already for a scholarship contest, so I can easily tweak it and make it into this essay. Do the essays matter in the scholarship competition?

If you’re talking about the $2500 one-time scholarships, unfortunately no one is sure exactly what criteria are used to make that decision. Your essay won’t matter for any of the official or unofficial school-sponsored scholarships, but I don’t know if or how it might affect your chances for a one-time.

Yes, that was the one I was referring to. So they don’t say what criteria is used to determine these scholarship recipients?

Also, would you (or anyone else who reads this thread) mind reading my NMF essay? If so, just PM me!

Bump… Can anyone read my NMSF essay for me?? I don’t need any in depth editing, I just want to know if it’s good enough to make me a finalist. I have to turn it in to principal by this Thursday!
