Two questions:
1) Which essay to colleges place more weight on, their supplement essay or the common app essay
2) What is the max length for the common app essay (all it says is minimum 250 words)?
thanks

not sure about the first question, but I'm pretty sure their looking for a limit (not exact limit of couse) of around 500 (*250-500 seems to be what A LOT of essay lengths are, and I'm not just talkin about college ones)

Okay, does anybody know the word limit?

I don't know if the common app will cut you off, but some institutional apps will.

The limit for your personal statement is usually 500 words. The common app may or may no truncate essays longer than that.

And I'd say that both essays are equally important. One tells them about you and let's them learn something about you that they would not otherwise know, it can also save your butt.

The other essay is another reason to admit you. It shows why you like school X and why it is a good fit/what you bring to school X.

Work equally hard on both of them. A lot of kids neglect they Why This School essay, but it really should be something you think about. If, for instance, you're writing this essay for Columbia simply expressing your desire to go to school in the city is not enough, they're sick of hearing it.
