<p>Since it is a supplement that you are developing on your own, not something standard required on the application, keep it as brief and to the point as possible. Remember: admissions folks are busy and they do not have much time to review supplemental information, especially at state U's which receive many thousands of applications. Get to the point, stick to the point, and proofread, proofread, proofread. I'd also suggest asking someone you trust to read it and tell you what they think it says --- that way you can make sure you're getting your point across.</p>
