essaylength??! please help

hey, im sorry but how long are your essays? i know that most people recommend that they should not exceed 500 words, but my topic is really complex, and it needs a lot of space to explain certain things... so my essay is now 950 words long and i am really worried that it won´t sound whole if i cut anything out now...
what do you think?
ps: i remember the prompt for the supplement saying it should be about 500 words... how strict should i stick to that limit?
pps thank you for your help!!

I would try to cut it down a bit. I mean, you can send in a 950-word essay if you want - the adcoms won’t look at your application and throw it away because the essay is too long. But, considering that they have to read 20,000+ essays, they would greatly appreciate something shorter than 950 words. If you feel cutting it down reduces the impact of your essay, then don’t cut it, of course.

I kind of had a similar issue to you. Initially, I wrote a 700-word essay, and I eventually cut it down to just under 500 words (I think it was about 470 words or so). I bet there’s something in your essay you can shorten/cut, but if not, then don’t cut it down just for the sake of reducing the word count.

thanks, ill try, maybe i should give it somebody else to read, they are probably better in telling which parts are essential ^^
so you think that 700 words are still too long?? ouch, thats going to be some work xD
