Essays- Can there be politics in them?

I'm doing my UNC long essay:
The topics are:
Complete the following phrase: "I wish I didn’t have to ...." OR

Is censorship in a classroom ever justified? Why or why not? OR

To learn to think is to learn to question. Discuss something you once thought you knew with certainty, but have since learned to question. What aspects of this something are you questioning, and what conclusions have you reached so far?

The first one is just going to be overused and asking for whininess
The second one, i can't make express much about myself
The third one, i would love to talk about how my views on homosexuality have changed b/c that's the first thing that i thought of and i would like to write that essay. But i've heard that political views of most sorts are a big no-no in essays b/c you'll never know who you'll get. But i really can't think of a good one that doesn't involve politics or religion. I really don't want to end up doing a dorky unsupported essay about how pesimism is not the way.

If your points are clear and you give a solid argument, someone on the other side the political spectrum as your argument will likely appreciate it even more than someone on your side.

it's not so much an arguement as just talking about it.It'd be more about how my views (and in a large way myself) have changed (omg, the grammar error, it kills me, I have changed- there we go). Which isn't too bad, but might it offend someone? I could actualy write a decent essay about this.
