Do we double-space or single-space?

Like for U-Penn's app, it just says "do not exceed one page"

however, do colleges prefer single or double-spaced essays? (or even 1.5 space. just any space)

Double-spaced. After reading essay after essay, they start to blur together, so make it easy for adcoms to read your essay.

So the college essays should be one page and double spaced? (Will there be enough space for around 500 words?)

Bump (10 chars)

It depends, if you are sending electronically (especially on the common app where your essay will be truncated if too long), you should single space.

I agree but also after reading essay after essay, to pick up and essay that is 2/3 pages or more is also going to be a turnoff and not get read. No amount of spacing will make up for good editing.

I like one and a half spacing...... Single spacing is too tight; Double spacing is a bit annoying and can give the impression of too long an essay.
