Hi! UPenn is my DREAM school. I really really want to get into Wharton. Right now, I’m thinking about the essays for CommonApp. I’m not sure what Wharton wants for essays. What I want to know is what makes a good essay, especially for UPenn.
The CommonApp Essay prompts are:
- Some students have a background, identity, interest, or talent that is so meaningful they believe their application would be incomplete without it. If this sounds like you, then please share your story.
- The lessons we take from failure can be fundamental to later success. Recount an incident or time when you experienced failure. How did it affect you, and what did you learn from the experience?
- Reflect on a time when you challenged a belief or idea. What prompted you to act? Would you make the same decision again?
- Describe a problem you've solved or a problem you'd like to solve. It can be an intellectual challenge, a research query, an ethical dilemma - anything that is of personal importance, no matter the scale. Explain its significance to you and what steps you took or could be taken to identify a solution.
- Discuss an accomplishment or event, formal or informal, that marked your transition from childhood to adulthood within your culture, community, or family.
So I have two topics in mind. One was about this infomercial channel that I discovered why roaming the channels while watching TV. I think this channel greatly inspired me to want to become a business woman/entrepreneur. Another idea I had is writing about how my brother inspired me to do well in school/life. My brother got into UPenn and went there for his undergraduate but now he’s not working or anything. So I wanna work hard to prove everyone wrong that I’m not like him.
I’m not sure if these two ideas fit into the prompts. If they do, please tell me which ones it would work with. I really want a creative essay. Please give me suggestions on which one I should write about!
