Essays length

Hi, I am applying to Cornell as a transfer. In part II of the transfer application there are 2 ares where you are required to write an answer. The first area is in the begining where they ask the following questions:

On a separate sheet of paper, please answer both questions below. Be sure to include your name and U.S. Social Security number, and staple the
page to the back of this 2H form.
■ Tell us what you’d like to major in at Cornell. How has academic or work experience influenced your decision?
■ How would transferring to Cornell further your academic interests?

In another page they ask to write an essay about one of the topics(the topis are irrelevant). What is the expected essay length in you opinion?

Also what's the standard presonal statement length?

I think freshmans and transfers have about the same requirements when it comes to the length of the answers, so I'm hoping you can help me.

bump bump...

The freshman word limit for the supplement short answers is ~ 250 words I believe and for the personal statement 500 words. With the short answers, you don't want to stray too far from the word limit. The personal statement is a bit more open. A maximum of 200 words above the personal statement limit of 500 is acceptable. Most admissions officers aren't reading for your word length though. If the essay is particularly outstanding, word limits become trivial. Hope that helps!

use those numbers as guidelines since they aren't explicitly stated on your app.
