ARe people 100% factual when it comes to describing things in their essay? Or do some exaggerate and embellish experiences?

Definitely do not exaggerate or embellish experiences in your essays! The whole point of the essay is to show the real you - the person behind the application. Everybody has had experiences that are worthwhile essay topics. Plus, if the goal of your essay is to impress the reader or brag about your accomplishments, you should definitely get a new essay topic, one that does more than summarize the rest of your application.

don't embellish your accomplishments, but it's okay i think to embellish and magnify the event in question for anecdotal purposes.

yeah, I'm talking about the everyday anecdotal events that you might use in an essay, not the experiences you would list in a resume.
