There is a book out there somewhere titled '50 Successful Harvard Application Essays.' Try finding it at your local library or just sit in a B&N and read it.

one kid in my grade wrote about his affection for cheesesteaks and another wrote about which way he turns his toilet paper. Both accepted and attending Ivies.

My friend who got accepted to Harvard used '100 Successful College Application Essays' to get her ideas.

Ah yes, the Ivey League. Good luck with that.

Ivy, not Ivey. Sorry, OCD.

anyone here have an essay they would like to share?

i doubt anyone is gonna post their essay....its kinda shady to post your essay on the internet/message it to someone (plagiarism...ya know).

The whole "essays that worked" thing is dubious. To presume that "since I got into Harvard, my essay must have been a major reason" is false logic. I'm sure if you took a few hundred essays from admitted students at any Ivy, you'd see mostly competent, well-written essays, but only a few that were so good or so unique as to really grab the attention of the readers. Most of these compilations would be better titled "Essays that didn't result in rejection"

I like Bauld's essay book - it's short, funny, and insightful.

On EssayEdge there are a few free samples of essays that got into the Ivy league. And if you search Google (as I did) you'll find millions!

Just be orignal don't steal ideas.

definitely read 50 successful harvard essays and get your ideas from that... i did, and i got into 3 ivies

Don't apply to an Ivy just because it's an Ivy-Schmivy, and write an essay you, and only you, could write. I'm sure reading all these books will help you avoid common mistakes, but they can't help you summon originality.
