Essays too short?

So I was looking over my essays last night... On the paper application it says they should be 250-500 words, but I think online it said 500. My essays are about 300 each. Is this going to be a problem?

Well, the common app said 250-500 but the Yale supplement says that it requires 2 essays of about 500 words each. I think it would be wise to keep it to 450-550 words. I do think 300 is much too short, and it isn't going to give the admissions officers a good impression. Just my opinion.

Thanks so much. Are you absolutely positive about this? Because I considered making them lengthier, but I figured it would be better to have my essays be on the short side but honest, instead of being forced.

Are you applying EA? Cos if you are, I guess there really isn't time to extend your essays now - the deadline's practically in our faces! But if you aren't, I really think it's advisable to keep your essays to a length close to the recommended 500 words. I hope other CC members will give their opinions because I'm not 100% sure. If you really want to be sure you should e-mail Yale and ask them - you can e-mail them anonymously if you don't to risk them remembering you when reading your applications.

I added into one of them a paragraph that I'd originally taken out, so it's now 400 words, and I think I'm going to keep it that way. Wmgan, you've been a huge help.

I still think 400's too short but that's just my personal opinion, please don't take my word for it. =) My common app essay was 493 words and my Yale supplement essay was 555 words (slightly too long in my opinion but I didn't want to cut anything out so I left it like that).
