hya, quick question regarding the essays... the main essays, for supplement and common app. how strict are the guidelines (i mean, obviously it says not to make it shorter than 250 w, but that is not the problem) actually, my essays are probably too long, with 630 and 1000 words... but how much do i have to cut them down (i really feel they are good the way they are, but i don´t want them to stick out because i can´t stick to word limits)
do the admission officers regard it that way?
what is the maximum word number of your essays (or was ^^)
thank you soo much, every response is really appreciated

bumpp please help!

I’m not positive, but my impression is that 1000 words is too long.

Make the common app essay a sensible length. The Princeton supplement essay, should definitely be cut down as they specify an “essay of about 500 words”. To ignore their instruction merely invites their annoyance. 1000 words is WAY TOO long. Something around 600 will be all right.
If they are “good the way they are”, then the core of the essay will be strong. Just strip away anything superfluous, and with the 1000 word essay perhaps think about making brutal whole-paragraph cuts.

brutal aaarggh exactly what i feared ^^ thank you soo much for replying, i appreciate it

As long as the essays are using the lengths efficiently and are not unreasonably long, you have nothing to worry about. I’ve seen 2000+ word essays that were successful at top schools.
