Essays with Automatic Admission

I just started getting ready to fill out the application for UT on August 1st. I am automatically admitted being that I am in the top 7%. Duke is my first choice and am putting most of my time towards that application (ED).

Being that I am automatically admitted already, do I need to try on these essays?
I don't mean to come off a lazy or pretentious, but if they truly don't matter, I will just write a couple of sentences, and focus on my Duke essays.

Thanks for your time and consideration!

It sounds lazy and pretentious. There are people here that would kill to get into UT and you’re asking them if it’s cool if you purposefully slack on your application.

They will automatically admit you to UGS if you don’t put any effort in your essays.

And I am not even sure that the application would be considered complete if you write only a couple of sentences. Most likely not.

Thanks for your help Ya Ya.
And I apologize if I offended anyone.

Just my two cents on this because of personal experience… I was also an auto-admit for UT Austin, but that didn’t mean I slacked on my essays (my other friends did however… I advised heavily against it but no one wants to listen to me LOL).

Later, I got interviewed for a prestigious university scholarship. During my interview, they actually referred to one of the essays I wrote about. They told me it was beautifully written and asked me a few questions about it. I’m not saying I got the scholarship based on that one essay, but think of what a bad impression it would have been if I slacked on it. So even if the school doesn’t look at them heavily, scholarships do.

That is very interesting, and something that hadn’t even crossed my mind.
Thanks for taking the time to reply. I’ll make sure to put my best effort into these essays!
