So I applied to University of Chicago for Early Decision I and I was looking at the Q&A for the application process. It says that for the “Why UChicago?” essay that they suggest the essays to be around 250 words. My problem is that I have already submitted mine and it is around 600 words, and I am really worried that they’ll reject me for that reason.
Do you think that they will reject me/not read it due to that reason, and if so, is there anyway I can fix it without any penalty? It says that if I have any missing requirements that I have until the 22nd to send it in without penalty, so I am not sure if that changes things.
Thanks in advance!
you’re fine! i know people who have been accepted with 1000+ word count why uchicago essays. they’re not too strict on word limits; it ultimately comes down to whether your essay is engaging enough to keep them reading. i don’t think you need to fix anything!
It’s mostly fine… But you have to keep in mind that all admission officers read essays/materials in a short time, and giving additional but unnecessary information will certainly backfire at certain extent. If everyone doesn’t follow the rules they asked, it will be tons of additional workload for officers. And it’s unfair for others who only have 250-300 words to express their fitness and interests to UChicago. So it definitely not a smart move. But the things is, what have done is what have done. They will not have time right now to deal with or understand your fault, and bothering them for this is a worse choice.
