I see on the UW website that the online application won't be available until 9/1. D is trying to get a jump on her applications, so I was wondering if the essay prompts are the same from year to year, and if so, where she might find the essay prompts. Thanks!

Usually they are fairly open-ended and general. But they count and are worth doing.

50. The University of Wisconsin values an educational environment that provides all members of the campus community with opportunities to grow and develop intellectually, personally, culturally and socially. In order to give us a more complete picture of you as an individual, please tell us about the particular life experiences, perspectives, talents, commitments and/or interests you will bring to our campus. In other words, how will your presence enrich our community? (I don’t recall the word limit, it may be 700, my daughter’s was about 600)

51. Tell us about your academic goals, circumstances that may have had an impact on your academic performance, and, in general, anything else you would like us to know in making an admission decision.

49. Briefly explain in 50-100 words how you decided which activity in Item #48 was the most important to you (this relates to the extracurricular activity you chose as most meaningful)

I know that these were the same essay prompts as the 2008-2009 application season (I’m assuming that the 2009-2010 prompts were also the same).

UW-Madison hired a new Admissions Director in summer 2010, so I suppose it is possible that she may make changes to the application and/or essay prompts for the 2011-2012 season.
