Essays!!!!

Okay so I'm having second thoughts about my Yale supplement essay. I think it's well-written, but I don't know if it's evaluative enough. I wrote it about my piano experience, which is very important to me, but I spent a lot of the words detailing what I've done with it over the last ten years. I only analyzed its impact on me, how it has affected me, etc. toward the end of the essay. Is this acceptable?

Also, I think my general Common App essay is good. I wrote about when I ran for executive council at my school and lost, including how it affected me and what I learned.

Thanks for any advice!

^^ I’m not sure what anyone can say to reassure you. Have you shown the essays to one of your English teachers – someone that knows you and your writing? That might be the first place I would look for essay advice, rather than on CC.

I could be wrong, but I think having an essay tell more about you is exactly what they want–they know enough about your accomplishments from other parts of the application.

Okay, so I decided to write a new essay for the Yale supplement. It talks about how I’ve lived in a rural town my entire life and the advantages I’ve had while living here. The main point of the essay is how, because of my small-town lack of information, I wasn’t even considering applying to any Ivies until the summer of 2011 when I found out about financial aid and how I’ve had to be very active in getting things done on time. I’ve shown it to a couple people, and they said it was good.

Any second opinions?

who are these people? That’s what matters, apply how well you know them toward how well they can judge you based on those essays.

Remember the people reading them know nothing of you - but it’s not supposed to be a crash course all about you - it’s supposed to be deeper understanding of you while leading more than meets the eye in your perspective to the school

I wrote a confessionary essay as opposed to something more developed - best of luck
