Essays

Application does not show essays, yet I read in Future Freshman Admission Standards (email from University) they are taken into consideration?:

"Other Factors
Essays, extracurricular activities, letters of recommendation, community service, and work experience as well as dual-credit, Advanced Placement (AP), International Baccalaureate (IB), and/or Advance College Project (ACP) courses may be considered as evidence of academic motivation and maturity. An admission decision may take into account the known strengths and weaknesses of an applicant’s college preparation program, the trend of an applicant’s grades in college-preparatory courses, and the applicant’s potential contribution to a diverse educational environment."

Also, application asks if there has been correspondence with anyone at university, is this recommended/helpful for admission?

AND thought they do not require letters of recommendation? Or maybe that is just from the Guidance Counselor…

There are no extended essays on the application- just some brief questions. There are, however, three essays on the Selective Scholarship Application.

The same goes for rec letters.

The essay and letters of recommendation, beyond the counselor form, are optional. It’s difficult to find any info about them on the admission website because they are optional. If your stats put you into the range of automatic scholarships, I would not bother with them.

If your stats are in a lower range for IU admits, I would do them. Notice that it says those items might be considered. Also notice those items are all subjective in nature. IU considers them when an applicant is a “maybe.”

Look at your stats and look at the IU score ranges. Make your decision from there.
