is it OKAY to send in like 2 essays instead of 1? i just feel like i need 2 essays to tell them about my personality, etc.
how about teacher recs?

The thing is, they make them optional. I think if one is better than the other, send that in. If they're both magnificent and showcase excellent details about your personality, send both. I'd recommend one though :D

I don't know about Pitt in particular, but it's generally better to send additional materials sparingly. For example, most colleges ask for a certain number of recommendations and say it's okay to submit one more, but they generally don't want that extra one unless it REALLY says something about you. They have a lot of stuff to read, so it's best to submit extra material only when it really helps you out. Personally, I'd try to merge the two essays together, or pick one and add little ideas from the other one into it. It's better to be concise than overindulgent.

But as Jeremybeach said, if they are both spectacular and add different aspects of your personality/achievements to the application, then don't hesitate to send both.
