I have written both of my Essays (Topic A and Topic B) but am wondering about the length of the essays. What is the maximum possible number of words allowed? Essay Topic A for me is 644 words and Essay Topic B is 1,019 words. Is essay Topic B too long and is Essay Topic A too short? Any help is appreciated. Thanks. I am a Top 10% admit by the way and am planning on getting into Cockrell School of Engineering with a class rank of 20/498, SAT Math: 730 Verbal: 640 Writing: 640, Unweighted GPA: 95.33

i wrote my essays and both were under or a little over 500 words... i'm not sure about the max though...

i got into engineering so you'll most likely get in

Topic B is ENTIRELY TOO LONG (as in, they will literally stop reading that essay before they finish it. 1000+ words is utterly absurd).

Even 644 for Topic A is a little on the long side! They're always supposed to hover around 500 words, FYI :)

I belive that if you have that many words, you will have two many characters, and the essay won't be able to be saved in the online ap.

Well they allow you up to 120 lines of 80 characters each. I didn't really go by the word count, but rather how many lines I had. For essay A I had 1,188 words and 79 lines.

If your lines are in courier 12 font with margins that give you 80 characters per line, you are in great shape.

Did I say "two" many characters? Too many characters. Thinking of too many numbers...

Oh ok. Thanks. Do you know if they will read the entire essay? I believe that I didn't ramble and that I am actually succinct and to the point in my essay. I used many details which makes the essay longer but I think it improves the overall quality of the essay. Also, do you know how large the margins have to be in Microsoft Word to have 80 characters per line?

I have a question about essays so rather than make a whole new thread, I'll just go ahead and post about it here.

I'm still trying to pick the perfect topic for essay B (yeah yeah, I'm a big time procrastinator) and came up the other day, what with Prop 8 and all, with gay marriage. It's hot, on everyone's mind and I could write a great, passionate essay on it. My question: do you think the people in the admissions department are going to find that a little too controversial? If so, I'll pick something else. I just don't want to shock anyone into not reading my essay even though it's good.

THANKS GUYS!

id rather kep this one one thread pertaining to this topic.

Im pretty much done with my essays and, for the most part, they are around 40-550 words.

Essay A: 504
Essay B: 404
Essay C: 550

are any of these too long or too short?

im mainly worried about the length of Essay B
