essays

i was initially going to write a deep, semi- depressing essay, but now im more leaning towards one that is humorous yet has an underlying meaning that shows personality. (i was just beginning to think about how those admissions ppl are gonna feel after their 20,000th essay on some serious topic). any comments?

whichever one you want. it's your essay.

Your essay reader will be reading hundreds of essays. They say they generally get alot of "this changed my life like this" essays and "I did this and this and this and Im really cool because of it"

Your essay reader will want to read something that stands out. Semi-depressing? Okay but it better be something that says something about you and your potential to do great things.

BTW - its probably just an adjective, but just a cautionary note - depressing essays might get your reader to think you have issues. Ive seen essays where I get the feeling they want acceptance into college through pity and/or they come across as suicidal or insane.

Dont Lecture - tell your story, what it says about you as a person and what it means for your POTENTIAL. Colleges want students because they hope the students will do GREAT things to improve their name.

o and its very very deadly important to check your grammar and spelling, sentence structure, flow, etc if your applying to high end schools. Some interviewers will toss a mediocere essay the moment they see mistakes because it screams you dont care about the college ENOUGH to check.

Good Luck!
