Who typically edits essays? Guidance counselor? English Teacher(s)? Parents? Did you have multiple people read your essays? I’m applying to a lot of schools so I’ll have many essays.

all three.
i know I'm having one of my friends read my essay bc hes brutally honest and will not spare my feelings.

I'm going to ask a few teachers to edit my essays, but mainly for grammar and punctuation mistakes because I don't wan't to detract any part of my own voice from the essay.

I wouldn't suggest asking your guidance counselor unless you go to a really good private school or the like because most GCs are very formulatic in their thinking and reject creative essays of any kind.

Not sure where you are in the whole essay-writing process, but see how few essays you can write that will work for different apps (then you can tweak them on a school-by-school basis, if necessary). This will allow you to focus more time/energy on each essay. Now to answer your question, unless your school has an official essay submission policy, YOU are the one editing your essays. What I'm doing with my essays is writing drafts that are as good as I can possibly make them on my own, showing them to one or two trusted adults who I know have the time and interest to critically read them, and then making my changes based on their comments. If possible, let your essays just SIT for some time after this stage. If possible, for 2 or 3 weeks. Then go back over them, make any changes you want, and send them in. HTH.
