ESSENTIAL Vocabulary for an international student

Hi there.
I know, there are so many discussions about vocabulary lists on CC.
The point is, I am not looking for a list that only contains highly sophisticated words.
For example, I already studied all the Direct Hits Vocabs.
The thing is, I am really bad in regard to the CR Section. I think the major problem is my lack of vocabulary and not my approach.
So does anybody know a good list of vocabulary with like average difficulty?

Btw, what do you guys mean if you are talking about vocabulary in certain levels? I read that several times here on CB but I have no clue what it is about.

Thank you in advance! I hope you enjoyed your results today!

Does anybody of u has any suggestion?
Please help me! Thanks!

I bought flashcards when I went to the states, there were many to choose from but I picked the princeton review flashcards, there were 500 words essential for the SAT, they really helped me a lot! I definitely recommend you buying them, if you can’t go to the states, you can probably order them on amazon or even check the bookstores sometimes you might find something…

Edit: I forgot to mention that if you have a mac/iphone/ipod touch/ipad, there is an application you can download for free, which is called something like Kaplan SAT words, they are flashcards and they really helped me too.

I’ve got the SAME problem. The paradox is I know the definitions of words like cliche, naivete, indomitable, recalcitrant, candid; but in the same time, I don’t know what “crowd” means. I mean I know 4-5 vocabulary while 1-2-3(partly) I don’t.

IMO, if you got DH down, you should stop focus on high-level vocab and instead read books like this:

And seriously, books like this help a LOT with becoming more confident. I read this one in 9th grade and it helped me immensely.
