Essentials

To whom it may concern (students, graduates, boarding school people, etc.)

What are some things that you consider essential to living away from home? Are there any things that are Brown-specific and would give you a leg-up by having them? Thanks…

Some pot would help you fit right in at Brown. ;)

Yay for stereotypes...

This t-shirt isnt essential but it captures a widespread sentiment and is sooooooooo true;):
"HARVARD: Because not everyone can get into Brown."

I spent two summers at Brown and actually made a list after the first summer of things I'd want to bring with me the next year so I wouldn't forget. Here are some of the highlights. If anyone wants the full list, PM me and I can send it to you (long!!).

Febreeze (Finding a free washer and dryer can be a real chore.)

Digital Camera

A Swiffer! (If you live in Mochamp or Andrews, dunno about the others)

Slippers (Floors get VERY dirty. You will want these more than you can possibly imagine.)

If at all possible, a printer (If you're depending on a printer in one of the libraries or any Brown facility, don't wait until the last minute. They are not so dependable, in my experience.)

Hand sanitizer

A candy jar (You'll get all sorts of fun people in your room this way)

Things to make your crappy Brown mattress more comfortable (ie: Mattress pad)

An eye pillow (so you can sleep when your roommate is not)

Mirror (These don't come in the rooms and you really don't want to have to go down the hall to the bathroom everytime you need one)

Air mattress (Even if you think you won't need this, you will.)

Shower CD player (Too much fun)

Alarm clock

Either get a bunch at Brown or bring some with you, you're going to need a fan for the warmer months. There's no way of getting around it.

Eating utensils (Because the dining halls aren't always open and Thayer Street is a culinary wonderland.)

Power Strip

An extra set of sheets

Posters or something to cover your walls (White walls get depressing after awhile)

A plant (While it may be tempting to get one of the hermit crabs they have at the Providence Place mall, I promise you a plant is cheaper and will last longer. Fish are a bad idea too.)

I hate people who spend money on crappy shirts like that. Sheep.

Wow, you manage to HATE people you've never met?

well hes a hater

im currently wearing a T-Shirt that says "I like girls who like girls"

Thanks Lindsey. That's quite an impressive list! I'm sure it'll come in handy! I would love to see the rest. Thanks again.

hey lindsey! thanks for that list- if you could email me the full one (jellibelli27@aol.com), that would be awesome! thanks!
