So here is what I want to know:

Chances for UCB, UCLA, UCSB, UCD
Chance for questbridge finalist
Should i try for Ivies / Elites (thinking HYPSM + Cornell / CalTech)? , and if Finalist for QB how likely is it that I get a Match for QB or get in RD at Ivies / Elites, how much of a bonus does QB finalist give you

anyone? .

Coming from a past finalist I think you have a good chance at becoming a finalist if you can raise your SAT score modestly (atleast 2100), but have no idea about your match chances (being matched is an entire different story). However you never know. Even without questbridge, you look good for all the UC’s, but the ivies and other questbridge schools are still reaches.

thanks for the input

With a good essay, I think your chances at Cornell aren’t bad at all. You’ve got a lot of interesting ECs with some leadership, and you’ve overcome some adversity. Remember to show why you’re a good fit for the school and I think you’ll have a great application! (I don’t think you can major in Biomedical Engineering at Cornell, but you can minor in it.)

As for the rest… I’m guessing you’ll get into at least one, if not all of the UCs you mention here. (I have no idea about Questbridge.) Cal Tech and MIT often look for major math and science awards which you don’t have, but your internship may impress them – it can’t hurt to try.

The rest of HYPS are also worth a shot (probably more likely than Cal Tech and MIT), but look carefully to make sure they’ll give you what you want – Harvard and Yale aren’t especially known for engineering. How about considering Johns Hopkins?

Looks promising–just need higher GPA and SAT. Your rank looks wonderful, and ECs looks pretty good, though not amazing (no offense). I agree with kdmom, essays are extremely important, and you sound like a person who should have an interesting/very unique outlook/experience of life. Make the most of it in your essay.

Johns Hopkins is a good choice to consider. Ivies are very difficult to get into, not to burst your bubbles or anything–you have as good of a chance as any. I have similar stats as you (only higher GPA and SAT) and was accepted to Berkeley and couple of Ivies (P + UPenn), but their acceptance criteria is so unpredictable. By all means, if you want, apply to them.

I can tell you that Berkeley sounds like a great choice for you cuz, it’s got a wonderful Engineering, of course, I’m just slightly biased ;)

Thanks for everyone’s input so far!

My overall weighted GPA may seem low because my school does not weight honors/AP classes in 9th and 10th grade…my weighted GPA is 4.83 for my junior year

I know my SAT sucks, but I plan to study intensively and retake

kdmom- I was thinking I could probably get into all the UC’s I listed (maybe not berkeley due to eng major) they have been fairly generous with my school. This year 20 kids got into UCLA and 15 got into Berkeley

I forgot to mention that I will apply for USAF academy too (i bet you were wondering why does he have USAF summer seminar there)

I think because of your stellar stats, you have a great chance for all the california schools.
if you get a great hook, I’m sure you can go to an ivy

You’re pretty much born weith a hook (URM, legacy) or you know for years you have one (recruitable athlete, ‘getting a hook’ is pretty tough.

UCSD should be on your list for bioengineering, it’s about the best in the Country and you have good stats for it, especially with the low income boost they give.

yeah I think I will apply to UCSD too…I am also thinking about med school and they have a great one

anyone else care to evaluate me?

bump 10 char

bump 10 char

How do I look for at least Berkeley?

bump 10 char

Your title should be: “pourriez-vous me chancer, s’il vous plait” :)

anyways, you should be fine.

thanks for the insightful response

chance me people

uc schools bien
ivies mal
au revoir
